About us
HISTORY
The "Brána do života" (i.e. 'Gate to Life') crisis centre was established by Ms. Mária Prieložná back in 2001 as one of the few facilities in Slovakia providing asylum accommodation to victims of domestic violence. Her idea was to provide assistance and support in that very area where it was most needed at the time. The aim was to underscore the severity of the domestic violence problem and help break the vicious circle of violence by giving the abused woman and her children a chance to take a temporary sanctuary at a safe place. However, it is the love for children that was the driving force behind Ms. Prieložná's effort. Moreover, the asylum home for abandoned, abused or neglected children proved to be needed and, indeed, quite necessary. The asylum home for single mother with children and abused women was therefore extended to include also a foster home and care services station (CSS) for children.
Our team:
- 1 manager
- 2 social workers
- 4 tutors
- psychologist
- part-time psychologists
- accountant
- and volunteers,
all these people help us in our works with our children clients. They play with the children, or engage in assorted activities - make or mend clothes, paint, take the children for a walk, etc. Also, they provide assistance in other extracurricular, sports and cultural activities and events, and they even perform some maintenance and related tasks.
(we thank all volunteers for their interest and help)
(call)
Additional volunteers are needed - people who are willing to sacrifice part of their extra time or their abilities for the benefit of our children. However, what is most useful is certain regularity and/or own idea/plan on what would you like do with the children, how could you make their life in the centre more bearable, and what would you like to teach them ...
